New residences include 4 new cabins, one of which is being set up for Veterans to come in to chill for a time when returning from any hazardous duty.  We are attempting to connect with the Veterans Association and Center for Independent Living to see if we can coordinate a program for any interested Veteran or disabled person who wants to live in the woods. Anything is possible!

1. New Cabin Story board

The setting is ideal for extended stay, research and writing by Monastics who are already seeing this location as a natural place to recuperate from extended Dhamma trips.

The Venerable U Indaka has already offered to the center our first Universal Peace Cabin.  There is a desire to develop this cabin for retreat for disabled people. It's a chance to learn some very good tools for living and clear your mind. Learn to meditate and find inner peace.

Sitting in the morning on the front porch is a good meditation.
When walls and floors are completed this will be a very nice sitting area.
An outlet if provided in the loft area above the porch to support a fan and light. One person can sleep up there and two people can sleep below.

Universal Peace Cabin Story

Stone packed paths were laid directly to the front of the Peace cabin. A wider door and an expanded porch is planned to include a ramp that leads down to a path to the handicap accessible bathroom facility.
The cabin situated about 25 feet away.

It will be about the same distance to the new kitchen/dining/community building when completed.

Peace Cabin is close to the bathrooms with flat walking paths.
The view in front is to the East. Raised flower gardens are being built in front of the cabin for wheelchair accessible gardening activities.
Anything is possible.

Got Suggestions? let us know.

Disability shower set up.

Wintertime Sauna will also be accessible.

Abbot's Residence Story board

New monk's quarters arrived to the base camp late in 2007. Ven. U Jotika supervised the delivery of the 12 X 30 unit.
Our friend Eric, from Derksen Buildings out of Kentucky, single-handedly placed the building on site using this MULE. Once the building was in place, Venerable Vimalaramsi began working on the inside of the kuti which can comfortably house two monks.
Inside walls were covered with lumber from a nearby mill. It's very cool in summer and warm in winter. Additional roof was added over front porch in Spring 2008! During hottest months, water will be caught in large containers at either end for the plants in this lawn area. The area under the front porch is a nice area for interviews or short visits with tea. It may later be screened in at a later time.
The interior walls have been completed and Venerable is now sleeping in a loft!   The next step will be the creation of a Floor with a Large Dhamma Wheel design. The "Floor Art" has already begun!
Potential Zen Garden.  This area behind the kuti when initially trimmed out revealed natural rock shelves..... This is behind the Abbot's kuti. The plan is to develop a natural forest garden.
We wish to thank Kirt Friese, Andrew Friese and Zach for continuing to help with the construction on this project.

Derksen Buildings has given us very good craftmanship on the habitat buildings.  Thanks to Eric and all of you for pulling together to help us to beat the weather on this project by the Fall of 2007!

3. Nuns Kuti renewal story board

After 5 years, Sister Khema's Kuti was reconditioned and placed onto a cement slab and is now hooked directly into the septic system!  The kuti has running water and electric now too!
The Kuti contains whatever is needed for supporting retreat participants in this living area.

A front deck was added on to create a n additional summer class room area for sutta studies. A roof is on it's way and then canvas screen walls compliments of army surplus.

This trailer will eventually support guests visiting the center for short periods of time after the actual nuns compound is completed in the future! A clearing for the compound is already open and waiting for the word to build!

Outside donations made the repairs on this kuti possible.  This kuti originally served as the first office for the center as well.

4. New Bathroom building

Women's side/ handicap accessible

Men's side- bathroom with shower unit/handicap accessible. AND entrance door into Sauna Room.

Rear of building provides small workshop and Retreat laundry area.

5. New paths, walking areas, and parking.

New easy walking paths around living areas by bathrooms on level ground. Cleared woodland walking paths for daytime walks surrounded by birds and wildlife.

6. New screened-in outdoor sitting area.

Outdoor  Screened in tent for sitting outside now has a fan, and candles for the evenings sitting under the moonlight!
It is already VERY popular!
Outdoor Buddha demonstrates how still we need to sit while doing the meditation!
sitting by the little pond on a large rock.... stillness..... calm.....FROGS! Ah... croaking...

8. New safer driveway entrance off the road coming in:

UNDER CONSTRUCTION:
A safer entrance was created for better access on and off the new road. The Rock is going to be painted with the LOGO for the Center.
New Lawn mowers were donated last year and they are doing a great job! Sweetheart and Black Knight are two pigmy Goats. But there is nothing small about the job they do on this field when it comes to trimming it! You may notice Buddy protecting them! HE is out Beagle/spaniel mix who is now a dedicated herdsman!

9. Breaking ground for the new Kitchen/Dining/Community Room.

New Eager Beaver Tractor helps get the work done assisting with cleaning up and road maintenance.
The new kitchen/dining building
will measure 24 X 48 feet w attached
supply cold house of 16 X 24. After completion, the "L shape"  building will include a covered outdoor
deck for eating. This could be screened-in at a later date.
