  • Teaching the Dhamma and Meditation in English
There is training designed to help foreign monks to teach basic Dhamma and Meditation directly from the Pali Canon using the Middle Length Sayings: Majjhima Nikaya and the Samyutta Nikaya in a clear and comprehensive way to westerners in English. The English translation by Bhikkhu Bodhi from Wisdom Press is the preferred translation for this training at the monastery with the exception of only a few words.

Finding the right words to get across things accurately is tough for all of us when teaching meditation. The advantage to this kind of training is that there is constant testing going on with Venerable Vimalaramsi's students on which words are clearest when teaching the Dhamma. This helps to connect together all the pieces of the Meditation in a very concise way for full comprehension. One of the activities is to try to find small words to use when teaching. This is challenging and a lot of fun. This helps us to reach out to all people when teaching the Dhamma.

Sister Khema prepares drills for pronunciation and assistance for students who wish to improve their English for Dhamma talk presentations and teaching meditation classes. As the program grows, students get a chance to present talks and practice teaching other students.

Contact Reverend Khema If interested in this program for a space for this summer session.
All traditions can work very well together when doing this training.
